A new Thai restaurant, The Teriyaki Bowl, opened on Monday, October 28, in MQT Township. Located in between Starbucks and A Bride's Choice, The Teriyaki Bowl adds another Oriental option in the greater MQT area with a more relaxed, bistro style ambiance. However, patrons will taste a familiar style of food, as the restaurant is also owned by the people who operate the Thai House on Third St.

Their menu is limited to just a few dishes, but with a different selection of meats and a rice-or-noodle option to mix and match, there will be different combinations for patrons to try. I had the teriyaki bowl (no bonus points for creative marketing here) with pork and rice, purely because they were listed first on the menu. Topped with sesame seeds, carrots, green onions and bean sprouts, the bowl was flavorful and filling. The pork pieces were quite large with no knife provided, but the meat was tender. Tying it all together was the teriyaki sauce that connected the rice to the pork, but didn't stick to the vegetables well. It separated the tastes a little more than I enjoy, but it gave the dish personality, which it needed as I worked my way through the large bowl.
The Teriyaki Bowl has an affordable menu, with the most expensive dish at $10. The serving sizes were also impressive with appetizers large enough for two to share while the entrees left little room for more hunger. My bill for a pot of hot tea, five egg rolls and the bowl came to approximately $15.
The limited space and serving sizes makes this a great place for a date or a couple, but larger groups may have trouble finding a space in the long and narrow restaurant. Take out is available as well. There is no WiFi, however the free connection from Starbucks is close enough to establish a connection. The Teriyaki Bowl is open from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. daily.
MQT Social Scene rating 4/5
