Hockey on Third Parade Kicks Off Hockey Season in Marquette
Celebrate the hockey spirit of Marquette at the fourth annual Hockey on Third parade, slated for Thursday, September 26.The parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. on North Third Street near the campus of NMU and will continue along Third Street, looping back on Arch and Front streets.
The parade features local hockey teams of all ages, as well as fans and local businesses. The celebration is held in conjunction with the Old Timers Hockey Tournament. Join in on the fun for this FAN-tastic celebration of hockey in downtown Marquette!

Universal Design Conference open for registration
The Peter White Public Library invites the public to register for the 2013 Universal Design Conference presented by Thrivent Financial to be held on October 2 & 3. The Conference will take place at the Peter White Public Library at 217 N. Front St. Marquette, MI 49855.
The regional conference welcomes home owners, consumers, architects, designers, planners, developers, builders, contractors, remodelers, design students, housing agency staff, non-profit housing organizations, code officials, public health professionals and other related disciplines.
Universal Design is a superior approach to design and construction that is inclusive, attractive and never obvious while improving function and usability for everyone in homes, products, and communities.
Featured keynote presenter Cynthia Leibrock, MA, ASID, Hon. IIDA, is an award-winning author, international lecturer, lobbyist, and universal designer with over 30 years of experience. Her mission is to improve health, longevity, and life quality though universal design. Prominent clients she has collaborated with include: The Betty Ford Center, Toyota, and The Smithsonian National Design Museum including an exhibit with Julia Child. For twenty years, she has taught courses in the architecture department of Harvard University. Her keynote talk includes a virtual tour of her home which was featured on the cover ofThe New York Times.
Other information sessions include topics such as Inclusive Outdoor Recreation: Where and How-to; Comfort & Safety in the Home, Regardless of Age or Circumstance; Design Research on Aging Issues; Universal Design & Businesses: People, Products, Profit; ADA Title II: Design Challenges & Opportunities in State Government; Accessible Landscapes-the Private and Public Realm; Human Centered Design: Future Designers Gallery exhibit and talk; Indoor & Outdoor Assistive Technology Hands-on Demonstrations; and the Living Building Challenge.
Presenters represent non-profit and for-profit enterprises including the State of Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget, Kohler Design Center, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Sanders & Czapski Associates, Universal Design Partners, Northern Michigan University, the Superior Alliance for Independent Living and the Marquette Access Group and TV 6.
The registration fee for the 2 day conference is $90.00 per person which covers meals, continental breakfasts, lunches and the evening reception. The one day fee is $50.00 per person. The full time student fee is $15.00 per day.
