The inaugural season of the MQT Royales Junior Hockey Club wrapped up this weekend at MQT’s Lakeview Arena in grand style.  The Royales hosted the Tri-City Icehawks for the final 3 game series of the regular season.

The Royales are the Great Lakes Division Champions of the Minnesota Junior Hockey League and the team saluted the home crowd Friday night as they presented their first-ever Division Championship banner.

The MQT Royales have many reasons to celebrate this weekend at Lakeview Arena.

This is the first time that the Royales have played a game on home ice this calendar year. This will be the first chance to see the Royales' two newest acquisitions, while celebrating the return of Lane King and Eric Hewitt from their NAHL assignments. MQT is a perfect 18-0 in front of the hometown crowd in Lakeview Arena. That home record propelled the team to a divisional title in their first year of existence.

So the Royales are going to party like its 2008.

The MQT Royales acquired two forwards at the trade deadline, strengthening their roster for a Minnesota Junior Hockey League title run.

“I am happy with how the night unfolded,” Royales Head Coach Mike Stanaway said. “I think I pulled a rabbit out of the hat tonight.”
